Dumisani Community
And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. I John 3.23.
Dumisani aims not only at academic excellence, by teaching students how to understand and communicate the gospel in today's Africa, but seeks also to be a community of Christian worship, love and fellowship in which shared Biblical values can thrive and Christians grow together in grace as well as understanding and knowledge.
We recognise the lasting truth of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's words from his book Life Together:
We belong to one another only through and in Jesus Christ. What does this mean? It means, first, that a Christian needs others because of Jesus Christ. It means, second, that a Christian comes to others only through Jesus Christ. It means, third, that in Jesus Christ we have been chosen from eternity, accepted in time, and united for eternity. (Life Together, 1949, p.10f.)
As a Christian Institute we desire to hear and obey Christ's call to support one another by praying together, worshiping together, working together and enjoying one another's company as a gift from God. We believe that such honest fellowship and open community can provide the bond to hold together South Africa's colourful mix of cultures and people.
